Olympic Chellenge | Maths

This Week for maths we were given a varitey of olympic maths chellenges to complete.

This chellenge was a group task where we had to decide what place on the podium each person came. The first step I did was 16.725 + 0.001 which made 16.726. The next question was how much did Nastia score over the bronze medalist? I solved this by using written algorithm.

Provocation | Reading

L.I : To compare then and now with the Olympics Places.

The DLO showing above is about the amount of money that was spent to build and help with the olympics. My reading group wrote some No and yes ideas as example yes they should spent this money to make their families proud , also no because people could use the money with vaccines. We also found some photos of them and now happening every four years.

Acids & Bases | Science

This week for science we were learning the basics of bases and acids. We watched a video on to you can tell the difference between bases and acids.

Once we watched the video we litmus paper and 10 household products to test on what base and acid are. To tell the difference beetween base and acid use Blue and Red Litmus paper to to test the products. If the red litmus paper stays the same it's acid but the blue changes to red then its an acid product.  If the red litmus paper changes to blue then it's base.

Olympic Maths Chellenge | Maths

This week for maths we had a variety of olympic challenges to choose from.

I chose to do the first and second challenge. The first challenge we had to add Michael Phelps swimming meters. The strategy that I used was to add all the swimming meters up and divide it by 2 which gave me 750m.

Times Tables Tournament

 LI: To recall time tables

This week Mrs Anderson’s group made a competition named superfingers to see who could recall the fastest times tables. We made a bracket draw to see who was playing against each other. The winner from each game would move to the quarter finals. The winner of the quarter finals would proceed to the semi finals and the semi final winners would proceed to the finals. We also added wildcards to the game which were Micah and Vayan.

I made it to the quater finals but sadly lost to Afatia. I think in the quater finals I could of recalled it faster. I enjoyed this activity becuase it help you recall times tables faster and can also teach you a new set of times tables.

The activity we did was to put celery into food coloured water and find the xylem. Once we done the steps we cut a straight line through the celery to find the xylem.

Greek Gods

LI: To use our smart searching skills to find information about the Greek gods

Today David shared his reading challenge with us. It is all about the Greek gods and helps us to practise the skills we have been learning in our reading lessons with our teachers.

David created this task as part of his CARE award challenges. We earn CARE award badges in year 7 and 8 to show that we understand our school values. In this activity we used our smart searching skills to find information to help us complete the table.

I found this activity cool and interesting because I got to learn diffrent things about greek gods and got to identifiy the diffrent greek gods and godess.

The Greek god I found most interesting is Ares because he's is the god of war and courage and I respect that. His life story is also intresting.
