Heart Rate | Science

LI. To have a good understanding about high and low pulse rate.

This week for science we did a varitey for physical activities for 30 seconds to see what your heart and pulse rate was. every person in a group had a role. The roles were recording, doing the activites and recording the results down on the sheet.

I enjoyed this activity because he got to see our heart and pulse rates.

Taste Experiment | Science

LI: to learn about our taste buds.

This week for tech we have been learning about taste buds. The taste buds were sweet, bitter, sour, and salt. After that we drank some liquids. They were name from A to I. All the liquids had bitter in it or sweet or salt or sour. Some liquids were bad and some liquids were good.  After that my investigation, I found out that not everyone has the same taste buds because people had chose a different thing to someone else chose.

Acids & Bases | Science

This week for science we were learning the basics of bases and acids. We watched a video on to you can tell the difference between bases and acids.

Once we watched the video we litmus paper and 10 household products to test on what base and acid are. To tell the difference beetween base and acid use Blue and Red Litmus paper to to test the products. If the red litmus paper stays the same it's acid but the blue changes to red then its an acid product.  If the red litmus paper changes to blue then it's base.

Osmsis & Transpiration | Science

LI. To explore diffrent topics that are related to science

This week for science we were explopring and learning about Osmosis & Transpiration. The first task we did was write notes down and define photosynthesis. The activity we did was to put celery into food coloured water and find the xylem. Once we done the steps we cut a straight line through the celery to find the xylem.

Bubbles | Science

For tech we learned about bubbles. We learn how to stack bubbles .

First we had to fill 250 ml on a beaker half full.Wieght 5 grams of sugar stir into the unti the sugar is dissolved.

Then measure 3 mls of glycerol and Measure 10mls detergent. Then Stir the contents in the beaker so all ingredients are thoroughly mixed thought.

Lastly we had to stack the bubbles we made stick and grab a straw then blow it then you can stack it.

Flower Power | Tech

LI. To learn how to dissect a hibuscus flower

This week for tech we were learning how to dissect a hibscus flower and also learn the parts of a hibscus flower. Before we dissected the flower we watched video on the parts of the flower and how to dissect it.

Task 2 - Parts of a flower

  • Stem

  • Stigma

  • Styl

  • Anther

  • Pollen Tube

  • Sepal

  • Thalamus

  • Male Gametophyte

  • Pedals

  • Ovule

  • Female Gametophyte

Task 3: Dissect a flower

  • Cutting board

  • Knife

  • Flower

  1. Remove 1 petal and sepal

  2. Carefully Pinch the side of the ovule

  3. Make a clear and straight cut.

  4. Remove the style and stigma

Floating & Sinking | Science/ Tech

LI. To experiment with heavy and light objects to see if they float

Today for science we tested and recorded the bouyancy of the objects we were given. Before we did this exeriment we watched a video and recorded notes to get an understanding of light and heavy objects. The results were 3 sunk in the water 2 floated and 5 semi floated.

Science | Tech

LI. To experiment with diffrent equipment

First we measured 100mls of water into a beaker

Then we measured the temperature of the cold water and recorded it on the whiteboard.

Next we measured 10 grams of sugar by putting the sugar into a petri dish and then measured it with a scale.

We poured the sugar into the water timed how long it took to dissolve the sugar.

We used the same steps again but with hot water.

I enjoyed this activity becuase we got to use diffrent equipment that I have never used before.

Cold water results:

Temperature: 21’c

Time it took to dissolve:

1min 8sec

Hot water Results:

Temperature: 81’c

Time it took to dissolve:

20 sec

Sir Isaac Newton

LI:To learn about Isaac Newton

This week in Reading, LS2 has been working towards Simple Machines. Apart of this, we were required to learn about Isaac Newton. Isaac Newton is a physicist, mathematician, theologian and a Astronomer. We were also required to create a DLO with the following questions: Why is his work important? What did he find out? How does his work connect to simple machines?
